McLean at this time was dipping deeply and pulling » jerky stroke. Kemp shot the mile post in 6min I6aec, and the race at this time was one of the greatest ever rowed on the river. Crossing at Putney* the champion ; gained another length’ and here McLsan made abtilliant spurt, bat waa unable to. reduce the gap, as Kemp with tho greatest, ease maintained his advantage and won as he’ liked by six lengths.
