SERIOUS FIRE IN DUNEDIN.
FINDLAY’S FACTORY DESTROYED. ESTIMATED LOSS, £20,000. (PEB PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Dunedin, May 13. The wnodware factory belonging to Findlay and Company, Limited, was discovered to be on fire about 10 o’clock tonight, by which time the flames had a good hold of the place. For nearly an hour the fire blazed furiously, illuminating brilliantly the railway station, shipping, and buildings in the vicinity, but it was then got under. A considerable amount of damage was done, but its extent and the insurances cannot yet be ascertained. The gaol, which is situated exactly opposite the scene of the fire, escaped, and perfect order was preserved among the prisoner?. Later. Findlay’s buildings, which cover half an acre, were completely destroyed, with the exception of a small portion recently erected. The estimated value, .of the stock and machinery Is £25,000. The insurances amount only to £SOOO, and the loss mast be between £15,000 and £20,000.
