TERRIBLE DROUGHT IN NEW SOUTH WALES.

(Received November 2, 8.50 p.m.) Sydney, November 2. The drought still continues, and the greatest anxiety prevails throughout the country respecting the crops._ In the Asbburnham district on the Lachlan Elver, it is almost impossible that there can be any wheat harvest this season. Indeed, the wheat harvest for the whole colony must be very small, and local millers are already baying up stocks at 5s per bushel. In the Mudgee district the crops have entirely failed, whilst in the Wagga Wagga district, hitherto the best grassed country on the Murrumbidgee Eiver, the grass is scorched off, and the country presents a most parched and bare appearance. The sufferings of the stock are very severe everywhere, as the creeks are drying up, and other sources of water supply, in the shape of tanks, are failing. At Wariaida, New England district, bush fires are raging daily, and at Tulloona station alone 700 sheep have been destroyed, whilst other stations in the same district have all suffered to some extent. In the Young district, one of the chief agricultural districts of the colony, the crops are an entire failure, and news has been received from the “ back blocks ” that stock there is in a most wretched condition through the scarcity of feed and water.
