THE PARNELL COMMISSION. London, November 1. The evidence before the Parnell Commission to day was unimportant, and the proceedings were adjourned.
(Received November 2, 8.50 p.m.) AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Medbodbne, November 2. The Chamber of Commerce Conferference, at a meeting to-day, passed a resolution supporting the Pacific cable project. They also resolved to ask the various colonial Governments to introduce uniform legislation at the first opportunity in their respective Parliaments dealing with the Trade Marks and Patent Laws, and to suggest that such proposed legislation shall be on the lines of the Imperial Acts. (Received Novembers, 1.30 a.m.) Stdnet, November 2. At the adjourned meeting of the conference to-day between the masters and the delegates from the miners, a draft agreement was arranged, which will now be submitted to the men for approval. Heavy rains have fallen in - the southern parts of the colony and far inland in the direction of Albury.

The weekly returns of the Bank of England published to-day show the total reserve in notes and bullion at L 11,840,000, and the proportion of reserve to liabilities at 38 per cent, being a decrease of L 256.000 on the total reserve, and a decrease of f per cent in the proportion of reserve to liabilities. The total quantity of tallow in stock is 10,480 casks. (Received November 3, 1.30 a.m.) London, November 1. Mutton. —New Zealand, 4^d; Australian, 3|d; beef, Sd to 4£d. An Adelaide wheat cargo has been aold atT42s. _ „ The brokers are convinced that if the Shipping Committee advance the tonnage iho action will be justifiable. Tbe merchants proposed to equalise the rate throughout the year, but the brokers say that at present it will be impossible to arrange this. No change will be made until the Shipping Committee have been fully consulted.
