THE WAIRARAPA AND EAST COAST PASTORAL AND AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY.

(FROM OUR OWN OORKESFONDENT ) Carterton, November 1. The eleventh show of the above Society ■was hohi yesterday in the Society’s Yards. The sky was dull and cloudy, and raw fell at intervals during the day, which somewhat marred the pleasure of those who came up for an outing. The show was a decided success, and there was a generally expressed opinion prevailing that it has never been equalled in the VVairarapa. The number of entries exceeded those of last year by 109, the total figures being 531 this year and 422 last. The condition and quality of the stock was the subject for general commendation. One of the features of the meeting was the grand display of implements, and the entries of Messrs E. W; Mills and Co. attracted a large number of those interested during the day, There was a capital entry of horses, especially in the ladies’ and gentlemen’s hacks. Piscatorious was adjudged the best thoroughbred entire ; but a great many thought FitzHeronles, who was awarded the second, was the better horse. As the day advanced the attendance increased, and after the arrival of the Wellington train the grounds began to wear a thronged appearance. The Carterton Brass Band enlivened the proceedings considerably with their music, and several games of chance, etc. were freely patronised by the public. The President (Mr A. Matthews) and stewards were indefatigable in their efforts to make the affair a success. Mr Burton Boys, as refreshment steward, was, as usual, •courteous, affable, and unwearied in his exertions to please everyone. ‘ln the after, noon the rain decended in The Horticultural Society held their show in the Lyceum Hall. Thera was a very good display of bloom, and was well patronised. The first prize for reapers and binders went to the Lowdown Buckeye. This is the first appearance of this machine in the Wairarapa, and its tingle canvas and knotter were greatly admired. We are pleased to note the improvements introduced in this type of machinery, and think that the light draught and general efficiency of this machine will prove very acceptable to farmers. JUDGES.
