ARRIVAL OF THE TRIUMPH. The es Triumph, which has been so successfully repaired bv Messrs Fraser and iirtrte, of Auckland, and fitted up for intercolonial trade, arrived hero from Sydney, via Auckland, at 7.30 am on Saturday. She is an iron steamer of 1797 tons net register, and was built at Middlesborough-on-Tees, by Messrs Raylton, Dixon, and Co, in 1880. Although originally built for carrying cargo only, she has been altered bo as to provide comfortable and roomy accommodation for seventy or eighty cabin passengers In the ’tween, decks aft. The saloon la 65ft in length and ab6ut 16ft wiio, and is lighted by a large skylight placed over the after hatch. In the ’tween deck forward, stalls . for 150 horses have been fixed. Captain T. Fernandez, of Auckland, is in.command, lind has the following otficera with him ; Chief officer, Mr Whitney ; second, Carney ; third, Mr Moore 5 and chief engineer, Rlr Cromach, of Sydney. After putting out about 100 tons of general cargo Triumph sailed for Lyttelton and Dunedin at 4 pm on Saturday. She returns here in a few days, and Hails for Sydney direct at the end of the week. It is stated by the Auckl ind Herald that there is a probability of steamer of 800 tons being placed on the same line.

ARRIVAL OF THE SS JANET NICOLL. The 88 Janet Nicoll, chartered by Messrs Donald and Edenborougb, of Auckland, for the. South Sea Island subsidized service, arrived here from Rarotonga early yesterday morning with a cargo of 6000 cases cfjoranges, 420 btinches of bananas, 44 bag's of cocoahuts, &c. The Janet Nicoll is an iron sVeamerof 782 tons gross and 489 torts net register, and was built as a collier at the Palmer Shipbuilding and Iron Go’s yards, Newcastle-on-Tyne, in 1884. , Her main deck before the bridge is of Iron* which does not appear to be an advantage In a vessel trading in a hot climate. Her cargo is, however, said to be in very, good order with the exception of part of 1300 Cases of oranges, which were shut , out on a previous visit, and were kept .at Etrotdnga for three weeks* The Janet Nicoll is commanded by Captain R. E. Hutton, the officers being, chief, Mr MCatheson; second, Mr Patten; first engineer, Mr Hutton, senior; second do. Mr Hutton, junior. Mr Kinghorn, the purser, reports of the voyage as follows : Left Auckland for Rarotonga on Friday, Bth May, at 8.30 pm, and experienced moderate E and ENE winds till arrival on Saturday*. 16th, at 8 pm ; anchored the following morning at daylight, discharged all cargo on Monday* and started reloading of fruit the same day, completing on Wednesday, the 20th, at 4 pm : left at once on return voyage, and experienetd strong SE winds and heavy rain, accompanied by terrific squalls and thunder and lightning, which listed until the 23rd ; thence until making the East Cape had light winds and fine weather, and from the Cape until arrival strong S and SW gales and heavy rain with SW sea. She was brought into Port by Pilot Holmes at 5 am. Her agents are Messrs Laery and Campbell. She Rails this evening for Lyttelton and Dunedin, for the purpose of taking up her contract service to the South Sea Islands.
