HUTT TOWN DISTRICT BOARD.

At the meeting of the Board on the 2nd instant, present—W. A. Fitzherbert, Esq. (in the chair), Dr. Wilferd, Messrs Jas. Knight, W. C. Devereux, and Robert Cleland, the following business was transacted The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The' following accounts were passed for payment Charitable aid (2), £2 10s ; labor for the month, £i 18s ; cartage, £5 12s 6d ; pipes, and railway fare, £7 8s 5d ; maintenance of the Richmond-road, one year,' £2 13s ; total, £23 Is lid., . The following tenders were opened for the formation of twenty-five chains of footpath, and building a foot-bridge across McDonald's' creek

The Clerk was instructed to inform the successful tenderers that' the Board will allow them to construct the footpath a few chains further, say, to Captain Hewitt’s corner, if they are willing to do so at the contract price. It was resolved to put up half a chain of fence at the top end of Fry’s-road, to prevent any one falling over from the road into the river.

Mr Joseph Hall was appointed Returning Officer to conduct the election of a new Board during this present month, in conformity with the Local Elections Act of 1876.

This being the last meeting of this Board, the members took a retrospect of their past actions and the improvements they have mads in the district. They have had no quarrel* daring their term of office, although they hare not at all times seen eye to eye, ' Each one has, however, tried to do bis best for his own portion of the district, and for the district as a whole. The Board expressed regret that Dr. Wilford did not intend to again accept office, but the hope was expressed that he would alter bis mind before the time expired to send in the nomination papers.’ The Chairman, Mr W. A. Fitzherbert, stated that he also had hot the slightest idea of standing again. Ho had so much to attend to,that he had not] time to devote to Board matters, but he would still do all in bisi power to assist them in the improvement of this Town District.
