NEW SYSTEM OF FIRE ALARUM.

(united press association.) Dunedin, October 4.

At last evening’s meeting of the City Coon* cil, a letter was received from Messrs Hasten and Beattie, who wrote, stating that having given the question of firs alarms considerable thought, and with a view to prevent falsa alarms, they had devised an annunciator which would detect any person raising the alarm. It was also claimed that the apparatus in connection with the annunciator would set all the firs alarm bells of the city ringing simultaneously t and would correctly register, by means of the bells, the part of the city where the fire occurred. The matter was referred to the Fire Brigade Committee, with a view of getting the system explained.
