FIJIAN NEWS.
MASSACRE OF FRENCH SEAMEN. Auckland, October 4. The s.s. Taiaroa, from Fiji, brings the following news:— Edgar Sillite, who was entrusted with the conveyance of j£26l from Rewa to Levuka, has disappeared. It is supposed that he levanted to New Zealand. On the last trip of the s.s. Taiaroa between Suva and Levuka, a man named William Peterson fell overboard and was drowned. ;He came ou board at Suva, and is believed to belong to Sava. The magisterial inquiry had not finished when the Taiaroa left.

Town lots at Suva have been sold for £ls per foot. The Goodenough memorial clock-tower at Levuka is completed. The captain of the Westward Ho, which arrived at Sava on the 15th September, reports that the captain, owner, and four of the crew of the French cutter Portobello, had been murdered at the island of Santo, and the vessel pillaged. A French warship subsequently visited Santo, but the Natives retreated to the bush. -6#% -.-#l3 i
