MASTERTON.

(FBOM OUB OWN OOBBESPONDENT.) October 3.

The Masterton and Opaki Jockey Club held a meeting at the C!lub Hotel on Satnrday last, the 30th ult. The attendance of members was not large. It was decided to hold a two days’ meeting on the 6th and 7th December next. The Masterton Amateur Miostrela gave an entertainment at the Tinut Hall on Saturday, which was a decided success.

The Loyal Thee nix Lodge, 1.0.G.T., met in the Temperance Hail last night, there being a large attendance. W.C.T. Bro. Dagg prebided. Four new members were initiated. After the routine business was finished, songs and recitations were introduced, and a most enjoyable evening spent. The public meeting re the borough loan question will be held this evening in the Town Mail, and is likely to be very interesting, as there is considerable opposition to the proposed borrowing.
