The Ladybird returns to Westport to day. Tho Union s.s. Penguin, Captain Anderson, left Lyt cltoa at ff p.m. on Saturday: had line weather and smooth sea up the coast, and arrived alongside the Queen’s Wharf at noon yesterday. ARRIVAL OF THE HELEN DENNY,

Messrs Shaw, Savill and Co.’s barque Helen Denny, from London, was towed into port by the s.s. Ladybird yesterday evening, and brought up off the Te Aro baths at 7 o’clock. She reports having left the Docks oht'e 14 th March, and Gravesend on the 15th. Had light baflling winds with thick weather down the Channel, lasting till the 20th, when she experienced a fresh north-west gale, which l isted till the 22nd.- On the 20th March, in 40 north, fell in with a north-east wind, which was carried right through to 11 north, no tme Trade wind having been got at all. Experienced variable winds and calms till the 15th April, when she fell in with the south-east Trades m 3.19 south and 20 west. They were, however, soon lost, and moderate weather was then experienced till making 43 south and 34 east, when a very heavy west-south-west gale was experienced, which carried away the topgallant bulwarks and damaged the forward' house. Ran down hor casting until moderate weather between the parallels of 42 and 44 south, and passed Tasmania on, the 12th June, on which day a northerly gale was experienced. On the 10th she fell in with a heavy gale from the north-west, anti from that day until making the Straits nothing bnt very dirty weather was experienced. Was off Stephen's Island bn the 20th, when a heavy north-east gale sprang up. lasting twenty-four hours. The wind then continued light; Lorn the south-east till yesterday (Sunday) morning, when a moderate north-west breeze enabled her to pass through the .'traits. Pilot Holmes boarded her at about 4 p.m., and at 445 she was taken in tow by the Ladybird, arriving in port as above. She is consigned to Messrs Levin and Co., and v brings a general cargo and a number of pas engers, who, with one exception (Mr Kirwan), enjoyed good health daring the passage. Mr Kirwan, who Is a saloon passenger, fell down on tho main deck during the first week but and seriously hurt his knee. Ho is still confined to his berth.
