A PROTEST.
TO THE EDITOR OP THE KEW ZEAEAND TIMES.
Sir, —I sincerely trust the Government will not allow the country to be put to the expense of sending the Hinemoa-to Lyttelton to gratify the showmen, Messrs Joubert and Twopeny, on the one hand, and a section of members on the other. As Mr Joyce said, the showmen are doing it for the gate-money, and the country is being dragged through the dirt. If any member really believes the show is worth seeing, let him go at his own expense, and stay there if he will, bat let us not be insulted by one or two speculators coming to New Zealand to make money. If members cannot do more than vole themselves pleasure trips aed ru e «uun of money, they must soon give way to those who have higher views of their duty to the colony. I am afraid this session will be one of the most unprofitable to us that we have ever had. The working classes are not very comfortable, and instead of every care being taken for them, the pretended Liberals are looking.out for themselves. —I am, &c., G. W. Wellington, June 25, 1532.
