THE RECENT COLLIERY EXPLOSION
THE LADIES’ LAND LEAGUE DECLARED ILLEGAL.
SLAUGHTER OF THREE HUNDRED NEGROS. London, December 19. Consols have declined and are quoted to-day at 99J. New Zealand securities are unchanged at the following quotations;—Five per cent. 10-40 loan, 105 ; 5 per cent. 1889 loan, 104 ; per cent. 1879-1904 loan, lOlf. Adelaide wheat, ex warehouse, remains at 565, and New Zealand ditto, at 525; Adelaide flour, ex store, 41s 6d. Australian tallow— Beat beef, 39a Cd ; best mutton, 44s 6d. The Homeward mails via Suez and Brindisi, which left Melbourne November 8, were delivered here to-day. Intelligence is to hand from Africa that a false prophet who had collected 2600 Negro fanatics in the Soudan, has massacred 300 Egyptian troops. Accounts to hand from the scene of the colliery explosion near Wigan state that all the miners except 40 have been rescued, and the mortality has therefore been less than was at first expected. A proclamation has been issued by the Irish Executive declaring the Ladies’ Land League to be an illegal organisation.
