“THE GRAND DUCHESS.”
After a short but successful season, the performances of the Simonseu’s Opera Troupe were brought to a close by a representation of the above opera bouffa, one of Offenbach’s happiest inspirations, with Madame Simousen in the title role, Miss Leonca Simonsen as Wanda, and Miss Carrie Godfrey as Prince Paul, Messrs. Kiocardi and Crain taking the parts of General Boom and Fritz respectively. The opera was performed with the same care and attention that has distinguished this company throughout, Madame being especially arch and spirited, Miss Leonora the devoted fianede to the life, and Miss Godfrey a very ebarmirg Prince Paul. Mr. Kiooardi’a Geueral Boom looked the blustering hero and commander-in-chief, with strong Baochanaiau proclivities, and Mr. Crain made a good Fritz, the rustic lover fr on the ranks. The company were called before the curtain after each act, and the audience seemed well pleased with the performance. In reviewing the various representations given by these artists, we cannot help complimenting them upon the conscientious way they have carried out their duty towards the public, the performance of “Un Ballo in Masobera” being so meritorious as to be deserving of the highest commendation. We shall therefore be glad to welcome them again to this city, and, we hope, at no distant period, as they have thoroughly established themselves as favorites amongst us.
