TOTAL LOSS OF THE TAUPO.

Auckland, April 30.

The steamer Taupo, when being towed by the Wellington to Auckland, filled and sank 17 miles outside Tauranga. A stiff breeze was blowing at the time. It is supposed that some ®t the gear below gave way. The men on board had barely time to escape, and lost everything. The vessel was cased inwoodsn sheathing, which was secured by chains, and these are believed to have given way.
