UNFORMED ROADS.

TO THE EDITOR OP THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES.

! ’ Sir, —It is high time that something, was done towards the formation of roads within the city. People are paying exorbitant prices for land to bhild upon where roads are formed, while at the same time they are perhaps owners of good building' sites where no roads are formed, but at a moderate cost might be, and cannot even get timber there Unless by “humping' it,” and then the question arises, how are they 1 to get:their wood, coaf, etc., carted to their premises? Some cottages have lately been erected facing Wallace-street, and . many more would be about that vicinity owing to the favorable and healthy situation, if the roads were carried , through to Hutphisonrroad, ; which connects : them with the Adelaide-road and the tramway. . The City Surveyor has, twice been requested to report on the state of; IVright and Wallace streets, ;hut has not thought it worth while, I presume, to bother,;himself about the matter. Perhaps., he, would kindly inform the councillors that the quarry extending three-fourths across Wallace-street, where metal was taken from for road purposes,, still remains open at the risk of people’s lives, and also that, the furze is allowed to stand .untouched in those out-of-the-way unformed roads. Why are we taxed?—lam, &c., Ratepayer.
