Tawhaio, Purikutu, Te Kooti, and a large party of Natives have been -weather bound for the last two days at Pekatui, six miles from here, en route for Kawhia. Ghahamsiown, Tuesday. The engine, battery, and plant of the once famous Shotover mine were submitted to the hammer to-day, and all sold but the battery. It is expected that the claim will be amalgamated with some of the neighboring mines. In the Warden’s' Court judgment was given for thirty pounds, a month’s contribution from the Otago Company, to the Pumping Association. The other cases were further adjourned. Letters appear in to-day’s Advertiser from Harapipipi and others, stating the Piako river is closed for the future to the steam launch. The Advertiser comments on this, and advises the owner of the steamer to proceed on his trip as usual. Wednesday. The Advertiser in a summary gives the gold returns since last mouth at 78190z5., being a decrease of neai-ly lOOozs. on last month’s return. Auckland, Wednesday. The Harbor Board has resolved to build two additional T’s to the west side of the wharf. A very heavy westerly gale has been blowing all day, and has done about -Cl 800 worth of damage to shipping and the wharf, The barques Thames, East Lothian, Harriet Annitage, and Nonpareil, and the schooner Mora, have been damaged by grinding against the wharf. The gale 1 is moderating. . Napier, Wednesday. The Rangatira, from Wellington, arrived last night. The weather was rough, and no communication could be had with tho shore. Tin steamer passed on to Poverty Bay, and is expected back to-night. Tho Diocesan Synod met yesterday. Tho Bishop gave a long address on tho affairs of the Church. Ho called special attention to tho spread of intemperance, and recommended tho consideration of tho subject to the earnest consideration of tho Synod. New Plymouth, Wednesday. Controller Fitz Gerald is now here inspecting the books of tho various Government departments.
Land is changing hands at fair prices. Mr. Vavasour, of 'Wellington, has purchased William Bayley’s Tataraimaka property at £S per acre. Mr. Drake, of Wellington, has bought Dingle’s farm, at Ahuahu, at £3 10s. per acre. Some land has been sold in Devon Street at £lO per foot, and in the centre of the town at £ls per foot. The price of £2O per foot is now asked. Blenheim, Wednesday. An unimportant overflow of the Taylor river has flooded the town somewhat, and interrupted ordinary business to some degree. Hokitika, Wednesday. The s.s. Tararua has arrived in the roadstead, and will be tendered to-night, if possible. The bar, however, is rough.
