[Press Telegraph Agency.] Auckland, Thursday. The New Zealand Insurance Company, in a special meeting, resolved to increase the capital to a million in a hundred thousand shares. Fifty thousand will be allotted to present shareholders, and fifty thousand offered to the public on terms to be announced shortly. Shares to be paid up, £2, Grahamstown, Thursday. Messrs. Anthony, Rowe, and McNab have been returned by large majorities for the Borough Council. Mr. Anthony was the one retiring Councillor. A bushman known as Black Jack was killed at Hikutaia yesterday, by the fall of a branch of a tree, which smashed his’ skull. The municipal election to-day causes considerable excitement. Christchurch, Thursday. The New Zealand Insurance Company has taken the balance of the Christchurch six per cent, drainage debentures to the amount of £10,600.
