PERSONAL EXPLANATION.
TO THE EDITOIt. Sir,—Mr. Chas. P. Powles, hon. Secretary to the Committee of the new Te Aro church, in your issue of to-day refers to me in curt and gentlemanly language, but he forgot he was writing positively on a matter not within his own knowledge. I again repeat my former assertion that I have neither subscribed nor promised to subscribe any money to the church in question. ■ Within three hours of the first publication of the subscription list I pointed out the error of the insertion of my name to one member of the Committee, and received an assurance that the mistake should be rectified. Had this been done I should not have troubled you or myself on the subject. But a second time the list was published with my name included, and then, finding that private intimation was ineffectual, I took other steps. I have heard an explanation as to how the mistake arose, and had Mr. Powles' letter been more civil I might have informed him regarding it-(if, indeed, he is in ignorance of the matter), but now I do not feel called upon to do so.—l am, &c, M. Mosijsy.
