THE GOVERNOR AT THE OPERA.

TO THE EDITOR. SlB, —Can you let your readers and the public know the names of the “lessees” of the Theatre during the late opera season ? There can be no question that it is desirable oa public grounds that the names of these gentlemen should be known. Their late offensive proceedings do not tend to raise this community in the estimation of our fellow-colonists in other Provinces, and are generally condemned by right-thinking men. It is as well for ensuring general patronage to future dramatic and musical entertainments that the names of speculators amongst us, who try to throw unmerited odium on the Governor, should be publicly known, and it is also desirable for the success of future artistes >vho may visit us.—l am, &c., An Anxious Enquires. Wellington, August 11. [lf it is desirable on pulffic grounds that the names of the gentlemen'referred” to should be known, it would be preferable that our correspondent should institute his inquiries in another quarter, and take upon himself the responsibility of publishing the names, if he think fit.. It is not for us to do so, on the authority of mere rumor. We may say, however, thatwe have authority for stating that one of the reputed lessees dissented from’ the publication of the letter which appeared in other columns as the joint production of these gentlemen.!
