New Zealand Spectator, AND COOK’S STRAIT GUARDIAN. WEDNESDAY, June 11, 1851.
By the John and Charlotte we have received Hobart Town papers containing English news to the 24th January. The news from Sydney is of a remarkable character. A day or two previous to the sailing of the William. Alfred ‘b- dle-ww-, •' vUv mbuOveiy was maae or gold m considerable quantities in the Wellington district of New South Wales. The discovery was made by a Mr. Hargreaves, who had been some time in California, and who was struck by the similarity of the formation of that part of New South Wales to
the gold regions in California, and discovered the existence of gold at Us Hill, Guyon- and Lewis Pond Cre other localities. The metal is in lumps and scales. The extracts rel to this discovery from the Sydney M Herald, which we have taken from theT’ son Examiner, will afford our readers all i information at present received relat* 8 this discovery. The next arrival ? ney will probably bring further informal on this important subject. ' n
