SYDNEY.
Sir George Gipps. — It is reported by one of the passengers by the Thomas Hughes, who recently had an opportunity of hearing much of New South Wales from parties high in office at home, that Sir George Gipps is firmly fixed in his seat for the ensuing three years at least, so high does his Excellency stand in Downing Street as a financier, and as a Governor, who gives but little trouble to the Colonial Secretary of State, my Lord Stanley. We give the rumour as we received it, without vouching for its accuracy, but should not be surprised to find it strictly correct in every particular. — Port Phillip Herald.
