AMATEUR ATHLETICS

MEETING OF WELLINGTON CENTRE.

A meeting of the Wellington Centre of. the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held last Thursday night, Mr Pollock presiding. There were also present Messrs Coffey, C. Everard, McVilly, Ross, De la Mare, and Larkin. The statement of receipts and expenditure in connection with the Shrubh-Duffey meeting was read by the secretary (Mr H. Batching). This showed that receipts totalled £345 7s 6d, the expenditure leaving a credit balance c*f £2O 11s sd. The statement, as read and audited, was ordered to he forwarded to the Council forthwith.

Mr C. J. Cooper was elected delegate to the Council of the New Zealand Amateur Association, vice Mr J. W. Davis, resigned. It was resolved, “That the Centre’s delegates he instructed to support the proposal of the Otago Centre to change the location of the Council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association to Dunedin.” /

The Wellington Amateur Athletic Club wrote, stating that they could, hot see their way to contributing towards the funds of the Centre. They had heavy calls to meet at present, but, Should occasion arise, the club would gladly come to the Centre’s assistance. The secretary said the Centre’s credit balance at present was about <£24, of which £2O had to go to Christchurch. r An application for reinstatement as an amateur was received from Edward E. Fisher, formerly of Napier. He had run for three months professionally, there being then no amateur club in Hawke’s Bay, but did not intend to run except as an amateur in future. Decided to forward the application to the New Zealand Amateur Association, with a recommendation that the request bo acceded to. The secretory was instructed, in case of future claims for reinstatement endorsed by the local club, to forward same direct to headquarters, if found in order. A communication was received from W. H. Johnson, of the Stratford High School, asking for copies of rules, etc., there being a desire amongst the young men of Stratford to form an Athletic Club, and to affiliate with the association. —Information required to be sent. The chairman voiced a suggestion that in view of the approaching Australian championships in October, the .Centre should take some action re representatives from the clubs under their control being selected for the championships, so that they might go into training, and get into condition.— Decided to ascertain what the council is doing in this connection.
