MELBOURNE, August 25. The Mount Lyell returns from 20th July to 16th August (incluvise) show that 33,403 tons of ore were treated, also 1515 tons of purchased ores, producing 711 tons of blister copper, containing—Copper 702 tons, silver 60,256 ounces, gold 1839 ounces. CHRISTCHURCH, August 25. Dredging ret urn s : —Reeves’ Proprietary No. 1,30 oz 15dwt for 133 hours. CHRISTCHURCH. August 26. Dredging returns —Al, 220 z for 120 hours; Bellevue, 13oz for 125 hours. AUCKLAND, August 22. The gold returns for the Auckland district for the past three weeks amounted to <£16,931. rr ' Takaka Sluicing Company reports a return of 89oz of gold for two weeks* sluicing. AUCKLAND, August 26. There was some excitement on the Exchange this morning in consequence of rich stone in No. 5 level of the Wai*>tahi (Thames) mine being exhibited here. It is the richest seen here for many years, and is very similar to the stone obtained from the famous Caledonian lode. Shares quoted yesterday morning at 50s, are now worth 745, representing <£37 for the original share, which has recently multiplied by ten for market purposes. AUCKLAND, August 24. During four weeks ending August 12th. the Komata Reefs Gold Mining Company treated 1300 tons ore io r bullion valued at .£2970. AUCKLAND, August 25During the four weeks ending August 12th the Waihi Gold Mining Company treated 24,637 tons of ore for bullion valued at £56,474. This is a record for the mine for the period mentioned. REEFTO N, August 24. The Big River mine manager leports:— During the week No. 8 level in the west drive has been extended lift, making the distance from the crosscut 97ft. The reef in the face of the drive at present is 6ft wide at the bottom and 4ft wide at the top of the drive. The stone shows gold freely and water is coming from the lode. The intermediate level has been driven west 6ft_ making a total distance from the winze of 26ft. There ip a good track in the face, . with a well-defined hanging wall. The stope has been driven 12ft on an average width of 3ft of stone. Thirty-three tons of quartz were raised for the week, making sixty-eight in the paddock.

REEFTON, August 26. Alpine mine manager reports : —Stoping on intermediate stone was stopped on Monday owing to the battery proving. it unpayable; 284 bons has been sent to battery. Crosscut has been started 30ft down old incline shaft from No. 7, and will be driven about 40ft east to cut a track in which the stone may have made. REEFTON, August 26.
