Black had all through the inferior game, and had to fight for a draw, which he secured with Bishops of different colour. The game, beginning with 13. P—K 5, was indifferently played by Dr Kaufmann (one of the leading Vienna amateurs). But even so, if he had retired 23. Q —Q sq followed by Q —B 2, he should have drawn without much difficulty. NOTES'. H. Pillsbury, we are glad to hear, has now quite recovered from his recent illness. Dr Planck B. G. Laws, and G. Heathcote have consented to act as judges in the international three-move tourney of the British Chess Federation. The following are scores, according to latest files, in' the Ostend Tournament: Maroczy, 9; Tarrasch, 8J; Janowski and Sekleckter, Teichmann and Wolf, Alapin, Leonhardt, Marco, and Marshall, 6; Blackburne, SJ; Burn, 4£; Tehigorin, Taubenliaue, 2.
