HAVELOCK.

A serious accident happened at Robertson *s sawmill (Rai Valley), to a named Dalaney. He was working a wire rope, and was lifting it over a stump when it tightened and caught him around ■the body, breaking two ribs. He was taken to the Nelson Hospital. The monthly meeting of the local school committee was held last Monday, those present were Messrs Brownlee (chairman), Brown, Brickican, Paul, Pope, Pickering. A letter was read from, the Marlborough A. and P. Association, giving particulars of a competition being arranged by the
Association, in which all the schools of Marlborough are invited to take part. It was decided to have some of the trees cut down round the school. Messrs Brown and Brownlee were appointed a visiting committee. An accident occurred on Wednesday, to Brownlee and Co.'s locomotive, when coming down an incline a cow ran along in front of the engine, and the driver could not pull up in time. The engine collided with the cow, the result being that the engine was thrown of the line, and badly damaged. The mill has stopped on account of the accident. A large number of members of the oraft assembled at the new Masonic Hall on- Wednesday last, for the consecration ceremony. The lodge was tyled at 6.30 p.m. by. the W .M., Bro. Brownlee. Visitors from a number of lodges were admitted, including Wairoa, Southern ■Star, and Ngapara. The ceremony was conducted by R.W.G.S., Bro. Conolly, assisted by R.W.P.G.S., Bro. Griffiths. After the ceremony a social was held in the Town Hall, when all thoroughly enjoyed themselves. It was one of the best affairs ever held here. The music was srupplied by Robinson's (Spring Creek) Orchestra, the instruments being piano, violin, and cornet. Dancing was kept up till 3.30 a.m. Bro.. W. Fitch acting as M.C. The following is a copy .of a letter just received from J. B. MacEfwan and Co. J. Brownlee, Esq., Havelock Dairy Company. Dear Sir, —In a letter just received from the British Distributors in connection with the Turakina shipment of your cheese, they say that they are very glad to report that the quality of this parcel was very satisfactory, and that they had practically no fault to find in any way. They also express the hope that you will be able to keep up your standard of quality to an equal extent during the coming season, as it means satisfactory returns in every way. Yours Faithfully, J.
