EXPENSIVE “JOGGING” OF MEMORY.
SYDNEY, August 15. A witness, giving evidence before the Land Commission, said he paid £9OO to Peter dose, a member of a Sydney firm, to “jog the memory” of the Land Department to expedite the gazetting of leases. _ Another witness paid "Willis £250 whether he secured a lease or not, and offered to present a further £1250 if the lease was secured. Willis got the £ISOO.
f - SYDNEY, August 16. The Land Commission has got on to the track of'W. N. Willis’s safe, which is in a safe-deposit, Mrs Willis denied that she had the key, but subsequently admitted that it was in the possession of one Hoskins. The latter was brought before the Commission to-day and compelled to hand over the key. The safe is to be opened to-morrow. SYDNEY, August 17. W. N. Willis’s safe was not opened to-day by the Land Commission, but the Crown took possession of Mrs Willis’s box at the safe deposit.
