There was a short sitting of the City Police Court on Saturday morning, Dr McArthur, S.M., presiding. A firstoffending inebriate, who was remanded the previous day, was convicted and discharged, arrangements having been made for his admittance to the Ohiro Home. For drunkenness John Stirrett and Patrick Rice (second offenders) were each fined ss, in default six hours’ imprisonment. Hetty Collier was convicted and discharged, and Arthur S. Heasman was fined 20s, in default seven days’ - imprisonment. For absenting himself without leave from the s.a. Athenic, Henry Chalkey was discharged, no shin’s officer being in attendance to prosecute. George Ernest Kellv was remanded till the 25th inst. on two charges of vagrancy. Bail was allowed —self in £lO, and one surety in £lO. John Henry Coulter was further remanded on a charge of obtaining £lO from the Postmaster-General by means of a false pretence. Bail as previously fixed was allowed. The export of timber from Greymouth during the month of May was a record. . It amounted to forty million superficial feet.
