At the Adelaide Racing Club’s winter meeting to-day the principal event resulted as follows : : —• ’ Grand National Steeplechase, of 350 sovs; about three miles. —Simple Joe, 9.12, 1; Lantier, 9.8, 2 ; Idalia, 10.7, 3. Tw-elve started. Won easily. Dividends. £7 Is and £3 3s. GRAND RAPIDS GETTING INTO FORM. MELBOURNE, August 19. At the Victorian Club races at Caulfield to-day Grand Rapids ran second to Dividend in the August Handicap, seven furlongs. WIN FOR MACHINE GUN. SYDNEY, August 19. At Tattersall’s meeting to-day Machine Gun scored his first victory in Australia, winning the Tramway Handicap, six furlongs, in a field of twelve. The New Zealander, who carried top weight (10.12), shot out after passing the Leger stand, and finishing like a flash, Beat Isis (7.13) by a neck in lmin 14sec. Ala chine Gun started favourite at 5 to 2 agst.
