To New Zealand (says the “ Sydney Morning Herald’s ” London correspondent) belongs the credit of elaborating in the fullest and most expert manner the system of London reports on colonial produce; with the large arrivals of frozen meat and butter at our ports it is very natural that the colony should institute skilled inspection. Three officers in the High Commissioner’s office devote themselves to this work and the collateral duties connected with it. One of them is now in charge of the very fine New Zealand stand at the Crystal Palace. An important part of Mr Cameron’s (the Produce Commissioner) work is the prosecution of meat retailers who are found to be selling inferior meat as New Zealand. The range of duties taken up in the New Zealand office in this department is very wide; the work is well organised, well performed, and. I think, must be of great service to producers and shippers in the colony
The Tourist Department has received a. letter from a gentleman in the United States hearing testimony to the value of the information supplied by the department to intending visitors. The writer, who hones to arrive in the colony with his wife about November or December, states that the particulars forwarded by the department, and particularly the tourist maps, were “ just the thing he wanted/’ --
