PAHIATUA.

At the last meeting of the Pahiatua Horticultural and Industrial Society the committee appointed to canvass the town for support submitted a handsome list of donations and special prizes promised. It was decided to hold the annual show on Wednesday, March Bth. Mr F. G. Milne, late secretary, was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his services to the Society in the past, and Mr Hamilton was elected secretary. Messrs J. D. Wilson and W. W. McOardle, of Pahiatua, andi Mr A. Quinlan, of Mangatainoka, have recently been appointed Justices of the Peace. The Mangatainoka Athletic Club’s gp-orts meeting was most successful. Favoured by beautiful weather, the attendance was large, over £3*s being taken at the gates. The multifarious duties appertaining to the office of secretary were efficiently discharged by Mr G. W. Chatwin, ably assisted by Mr C. A. Barrell, and a 9 an instance of their promptitude it may be mentioned that by 5 p.m. all prize-Avinners had been paid in full. At Mangatainoka on Boxing Day Miss Janet Larsen Avas married to Mr J. McNicol, of the W.F.O.A. staff. At the Pahiatua Hospital Mr EL Willoughby Avas joined in the bonds of matrimony to Miss Cook, sister of Mrs R. Black, of Pahiatua. Mr Willoughby, who recently met Avith a shooting accident at the Pahiatua Rifies’ camp, is still an inmate of the Hospital, though progressing favourably.
