D BATTERY AT SEATOUN. The D Battery held annual sports at Seat oun on Thursday. The weather was beautifully line, and a largo crowd visited the camp during the day. The object- of the sports, besides exciting emulation amongst the men, was to provide funds for the, garrison bazaar, to be held in February. Major JMoorliouse was in command, and lie was assisted in carrying out the sports by Lieutenants Rose, Courtney, Smith and Johnson, and Mas-ter-Gunner Richardson, R.A. During the afternoon the members of Harrison’s gymnasium class gave an exhibition of physical drill. The results of the competitions were as follows: —_ Subdivision Alarm Competition.—/This event excited much interest. The battery was bivouacked in column of subdivisions, harness stacked in rear of horses, and detachments lying down in rear. When the alarm sounded, the teams were harnessed and taken into action at a distance' of two hundred yards, two rounds of “blank” fired, and retired to original bivouac at-the gallop. F detachment, under Sergeant Fletcher, ivas first, with 86 per cent. ; D detachment, Sergeant Carter, 85 per cent., second; A detachment,' Sergeant Gibson, 75 per cent., t'hirdHandicap Flat Race. —Gunner Andrews 1, G'unner Parker 2. Tug-of-war (horseback). —Driver Day, Corporals TJrwin and Brown. Balaclava Melee.—Sergeant Skelly, Corporals Brown, TJrwin, Stubbs and Driver Day. Wheel Race, 50 yards.—Sergeant Skelly 1, Gunner Andrews 2. Novel Race.—Bom. Janson 1, Driver Brewer 2. Tent Pegging.—Bom. Janson 1, Sergeant Skelly 2, Corporal Styles 3. Lemon Cutting.—Bom. Janson 1, Corporal Styles 2. Tho sports were concluded with a display by the battery. During the afternoon Sir J. G. and Lady Ward visited the grounds. Driving Competition.—C subdivision. Sergeant Carter, 1; F subdivision, Sergeant Fletcher 2. Half section Competition. Q.M.S. Talbot and Trooper Styles, Heretaunga M.R., 1. Addition Race.—Q.M.S. Talbot 1, Sergeant Carter 2, Driver Janson 3. 0 E subdivision under Sergeant Skelly won the “Brandon badges ” and Sturgeon Collins’s cup for best shooting subdivision, scoring 32 hits out of 51 rounds in fifteen minutes, Sergeant Fletcher’s
detachment scoring second place. No. 3 section (Lieut. Smith’s) won Colonel Pearce’s cup for the best shooting section in the battery.
