FIRE ON THE APARIMA

ALBANY, August 23. The pumps on the Union steamer Aparima, which put into Albany with her cargo on fire, and a harbour dredge have been working continuously since Thursday on the fire, which exhibits signs of abatement. It is expected that an attempt will be made to-day to clear the seat of the outbreak. The bulkhead between the bunker and No. 2 hold is almost fused, and the coal and cargo will be removed.

it seems certain that the ship, which has now settled low in the water, has sustained great damage.
