LORD ROSEBERY: SANTA CLAUS.
Rord Rosebery on Saturday night (says the “Daily Mail” of December il) took a walk round the streets of Epsom in company of the chairman of the urban council, his immediately object being the inspection of the new scheme .of electric lighting. In the working-class portion of the town he stopped opposite a waste piece of ground, where a large crowd stood around a crockery dealer disposing of his wares. After watching the proceedings for a few minutes Lord llosebery went up to the dealer, offered to purchase his remaining stock, and finally struck a bargain for £5. Lord Rosebery then proceeded to give the articles away to the people, but in doing so exercised much discrimination, the poorer-looking children and women being the principal recipients, though everybdy was anxious to receive something from his hands. The affair caused no little stir in the neighbourhood, and the noble donor seemed to enjoy his part in the proceedings immensely. Three hearty cheers were given him as he left for the Durdans.
