Mana, sire of Repeater, was bred at Auckland by the New Zealand Stud Company. By Musket—L’Orient, he was a full brother to Francotte, a good performer in the South Island. Mana only sported silk on two occasions as a two year old, and was afterwards sold and went to the stud in Victoria.
Repeater met Lowland Chief on a stone better terms than in the V.R.C. Grand National Hurdles. At that meeting the latter horse won the Maiden Hurdles in fast time, and the Doulta Galla Hurdle * Race, two miles and a quarter, carrying lOst 71b, in which Repeater, lOst 51b, ran second. Antaeus (sire of Lowland Chief) is a son of Sir Modred (Tradueer —Idalia) and was a successful performer in New South Wales.
Rickshaw was bred in New South Wales, in which State he raced until a couple of months back, but has since been trained by J. E. Brewer at Caulfield. His sire, Lochiel, carried Mr G. G. Stead’s yellcw jacket and black cap in all his races. The winners of the V.R.C. Grand National Hurdles (Shoddy) and the Caulfield Grand National Hurdles (Repeater) are both by sons of Musket. Trenton (sire of Shoddyis half brother to Niagara, who was last season represented by Aquarius (winner V.R.C. Grand Nartional Hurdles) and Beau Bfummel (second Caulfield Grand National Hurdles).
