AUSTRALIAN METHODS AT FAULT
Speaking at the annual meeting of th® Riverina Frozen Meat Company, Limited, at Melbourne, the chairman (Mr J. Cooke), referring “to Australian commercial methods in dealing with meat supplies for export during the past, season, said that for several months Australian mutton met a satisfactory market, but a most unwise and unnecessary pressure of supplies of Sydney mutton on the London market early in March created a panic amongst buyers and caused a collapse df frilly Id per lb in prices. When it waß realised that no Australian mutton could possibly be shipped to Great Britain for several months, the' folly of forcing prices "down, was all the more remarkable and incomprehensible. The vagaries of the frozen meat trade and traders were truly vexatious. To find Australian mutton bringing about per lb less than New Zealand and id l©s s than Argentine, while the intrinsic value differed very slightly, was from credit, able to Australian commecial methods.
