A CRIMINAL APPEAL
THE SELATI RAILWAY FRAUDS
LONDON, January 24.
Last year* judgment was given by a Brussel* Court in the criminal prosecution instituted by Dr Leyds again it Baron Oppenheim. Robert Oppenheim and foui* other persons in connection with the Selati Railway Company formed in Belgium to build the Selati Railway to the Transvaal. The two Oppenheims and an advocate named Henri Warnaut were found guilty, and seuieuced to oue year’s imprisonment. One Terwague was sentencedtosix months’imprisonment, and Louis Warnaut and Bracomiier were acquitted. On appeal the acquittal of Louis Warnaut and Braconnier has been confirmen, but the sentence passed ©n Eugene Oppenheim has been increased to I?hree years, and Henri Warnaut’s senteuce to eighteen months. Robert Oppenheim was reported to be ill.
