YACHTING.

ARAWA SAILING CLUB. The Arawa Sailing Club was favoured with a splendid breeze on Saturday afternoon. Considerable interest was taken in the Second-class Cruising Match, it being the first time this season the yachts have met. Kotuku (late Iris) maintained her reputation by sailing away from her rivals, and eventually winning easily. Greyhound and Mahaki fought out a good finish for second place, the other competitors being all within a few minutes of the second boat. A very even race amongst the halfraters resulted in Ruru winning on time allowance. The boats were locked together on completing the first round, and it was impossible to time them round the buoy. During the second round thev went to assist the crew of the Uira. which capsized, through her gear fouling as she jibed on the run from Kpiwarra. It was mutually decided to return and start

the race again. The General Handicap was poorly contested, only Rewi and Matea finishing, the former winning. Next Saturday the second heats of these events will be sailed. The following are the results: Cruising Match.—Kotuku (late Iris), 4hr 40min 6sec, first; Greyhound, 4hr 49min 2sec, second; Mahaki, 4hr 49min 58sec, third; Taipari, 4hr 50min 58scc; Ripple, 4hr 51min 18sec; May, 4hr 69min 45sec.
