THE LAND BOARD AND THE SETTLERS.

“ EDITOB. Sib, —la the iVoddtfilU Examiner of the 31st ult. appears a report clipped from your valuable paper, in which Mr J. Stevens* MUR., is reported (at the last met'ling of the Wellington Land Board) to have said, " The .-Board was blamed by scoundrels; who concocted stories of this kind for their ...priVacs purposes." I challenge Mr Stevens to prove that anyone had private motives for writing re the late Mr J. H. Chapman. If Mr Stevens wishes it proved that the Board has harassed the settlers of this district, I will, with your permission, give a few instances through your much-esteemed columns. To be called dishonest for standing up for one’s fellow-man is new to me. So, therefore, let Mr Stevens prove his accusations, or for evermore retire into obscurity.—-I am, &0., ! M.C.P.H. Mangat.ainoka, Ist February, 1898.
