The Builders' Association wrote to the City Council last week suggesting that, instead .'f plans of proposed buildings being lodged with the Council, they should be simply stamped and then returned to the archite -t« to whom they belonged. The Council decided that it could not deal with the matter, as no motion rescinding a former resolution of the Council that all plans should be lodged had been tabled. Messrs Sargood Son and Ewcn having received permission from the Harbour Board to build an overhead bridge on the Hunter street reserve, applie i for similar permission to the City Connoil last Thursday. The City Surveyor reported that the erection of such a structure was contrary to the by-law, and the Council thereupon decided that it had no power to grant the application. The Mayor pointed out that as the bridge would ' be enclosed it would simply amount to a wooden addition, and because it was on higher piles than usual that was no reason why it should be granted.
