GOVERNMENT POULTRY EXPERT.
Mr J. A. Henderson, of the Railway Engineer’s Office, has been selected for the appointment of Government poultry expert. He is already well known as the author of.an exceedingly popular pamphlet oil poultry, published by the Agricultural Department, and by his efforts through the public press of the colony has called atteution to the importance of the poultry industry and its possibilities of expansion. He has done practical work in this direction, too, having by a successful commercial shipment of eggs to London proved that there is a payable market there for our surplus. Those who visited the late Exhibition in Wellington will remember what an eye-opener his little poultry “farm " proved to many who had spout a lifetime at the business, and it showed that he is not a man content to follow where others lead, but is well able t-o devise new and successful methods for himself. It may be noted‘that Mr Henderson has taken University honours as a naturalist, and for'a number of-years past : has devoted his spare time-' fo-tue ouudy of the profitable aspect of poultry keeping. His ambition vnow, as . those who understand and appreciate him are aware, is to- build up a great national industry, such as is.'known to exist in this same direction in Belgium and Prance, and there can.be no reasonable doubt that with his skill.and knowledge, combined with the facilities .which' will be given him by the Government' Mr Henderson will succeed - in' his work. Eo one knows the ways of settlers - better than himself, for he spent a number of years amongst them, and is thus able to win their confidence by his intimate knowledge of and capacity to talk about all that they take an interest in.
