THE CHURCHES.

ST. PETER’S

At St. Peter’s Church on Sunday, the preacher at morning prayer was >the Rev R. Young, vicar of Foxton. His theme was the proved use of the adjuncts of the worship of God. In the afternoon the Rev A. O. Williams gave an address to the children, chiefly on the work amongst the Maoris. At evensong, after a very hearty service, in the course of which the anthem “ Far from my Heavenly Home ” was effectively rendered by the choir, the Rev J. B. Davys, M.A., delivered an impressive and instructive sermon on Malachi iii., 17. Amongst many helpful thoughts he dwelt especially on the expectancy which should characterise the Christian man. The reason why men despaired of themselves, and compared themselves unfavourably with nonreligious men, was that they looked rather for present results instead of expectantly awaiting the future kingdom. CHURCH OF CHRIST. Mr A. F. Turner preached on Sunday evening, and having given an interesting description of Solomon’s Temple, he drew a parallel between . that building and the spiritual Temple, the Church, and pointed out that those who held aloof from the Church were in danger of being oternally lost.
