HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL.

At the monthly meeting of the Hutt County County on Tuesday, the committee appointed to consider the adjustment of the boundaries of the ridings of the Hutt County, “so as to equalise more nearly the number of ratepayers and the ratable value of each riding,” submitted their report, and stated that if their recommendations wore adopted tho ratable value would bo more evenly distributed, and tho number of ridings would be reduced from nine to seven, each having one representative only. It was dooidod “that tho report bo adopted subject to several minor alterations in tho proposed boundaries, and to tho Porirua riding being divided into two ridings, with a single representative for each division.” It was decidod that the Council’s reservo at Lower Hutt be leased to Mr W. Noazor for TI per year. An offer from Mr S. Benge of three acres of land at Akatarawa for the purposes of a public cemetery was accepted with thanks. It was decided that the general rate in tho Makara riding be Id in the .£ and Jd in the T in all other ridings. Mr T. \V. Caverhill applied for consent to a road through sections 37 and 186, Belmont Tho matter was referred to Councillor Speedy for a report. Mr A. G. Barnard wrote stating that ho would hold the Council responsible for damage done to his property by tho Pakura- . talii River, owing to the erection of groins, and asking that drains should be cleared. Tho letter was received. The question of paying tho amount due for the maintenance of the main road at Johnsonville was left in tho hands of the councillors of the riding. A slaughtering license was issued to tho Messrs Vickers, Gollan’s Valley.! The resignation of Mr S. Harris, ranger, was accepted. The Inspector of Nuisances for tho Council reported that he had visited Plimmerton and made an inspection of tho place ’<-ith reference to drainage. The wliolo question was one of cost. He did not find anything objectionable about tho houses. To provide drainago for the whole of tho sections sold by the Railway Company would cost about T 250 for tho pipes alone for tho main drain, besides tho cost of cement, laying tho pipes, taking tho levels and connecting the houses, and laying sinks, traps, &e. A better system for the disposal of nightsoil was wanted. Persons should be prohibited from burying it in their yards. The Inspector attributed any sickness that had occurred there to bad water, and thought that an effort by those interested should bo made to obtain artesian water. If was decided that Councillors Bradey and Jillott should enquire into tho matter and report as. to the tulvisablcncss of creating Plimmerton a separate drainage district. Tho Inspector of Roads read his roport, which was adopted. Accounts amounting to T 733 Cs 5d wero passed for payment.
