THE BRUNNER FUND.

At a meeting on Friday of delegates from tho different centres to the Brunner Relief Fund, it was announced that all tho members of the Advisory Board had expressed their willingness to act, save Mr Stratford, S.M., and Mr Trenery, chairman of the Inangahua County Council. The Hon J. Kerr, M.L.C., Mr Guinness, M.H.R., and Mr Duncan McLean were appointed members of tho Board, and tho name of Mr Felix Campbell was subsequently added, tho Board now consisting of nino members.

The Wellington and Dunedin Committees wrote expressing tho opinion that the charge of one per cent, for administering tho fund made by tho Public Trustee was excessive, and suggesting that tho fund should bo administered free of cost. It was decided to refer tho lettors to tho Public Trustee, and ask him to explain tho position. Tho meeting formally adjourned for a fortnight, on tho understanding that the delegates would not bo called together unless thoro was some necessity for such a course.

The final meeting of the local Brunner Relief Fund Committee was held on Thursday afternoon in the Council Chambers, MrD.M. Luekie presiding. The balance-sheet, which was adopted, showed that the receipts amounted to JjiiOSo 5s 2d, and the expenditure to £3 10s Gd, leaving a balance in hand of .i'2070 5s Bd. Tho treasurer was instructed to hand the balance to the Public Trustee. Mr Galo referred in praiseworthy terms to the able services .Mr Stevens had givon the committee as secretary. Mr Galo moved that it bo represented to the Premier that in the Bill to provide for the constitution of a trust in connection with the Brunner Disaster Fund there should be a clause under which the fund shall be administered by tho Public Trustee, and that no fee be charged therefor. tho Brunner Fund now amounts to .£2031 5s 2d. The local branch of tho Federated Seamen's Union has given a donation of .£7 17s to the fund.
