A billiard match was played at the Albert Hotel on the 31st between Mr Fred Bennett, of London, and Mr F. Faber, of Wellington. The 'match was 800 up, Bennett conceding his opponent 200 points ; and it resulted in the Londoner winning a decisive victory by 440 points. His best breaks were 425, which he took 13min and 143ee in compiling, and 159. Mr Bennett goes South at the end of the week. Mr K. Tolley, belonging to the staff of the New Zealand Electrical Syndicate, has patented an ingenious invention, which should prove of incalculable benefit to shopkeepers. It consist of an electric bell, which is so arranged.that it rings immediately any article exposed outside the shop is removed, thus warning the assistants inside the establishment.
