AN ELECTRIC SHOCK.
An electric light wire accident of a somewhat serious nature occurred in Constable street, Newtown, about 8 o’clock on Monday night (April 22.) It appears that some time during the afternoon one of the electric light wires Avas blown down by the wind, and lay on the ground near the footpath. When the lamps were lit at night the electricity of course travelled along the wire, and unfortunately three persons came in contact with it. A young man named Bernard Hanson, who lives Avith Ids parents at Rilbirnie, by some meaaa which are as yet unexplained touched the wire, and received a severe shock, besides having- the little finger of his left hand badly burnt. Constable Carroll removed him to the Hospital without delay, Hanson being then in a state of unconsciousness, but after some time he came round, and at latest accounts he was out of danger, although still in a dazed condition. A young woman named Alice Mason was also burned on the hand from the same cause, and her younger sister received some slight injuries.
One account is to the effect that when the Avire was broken during the day some person foolishly tied one end to the fence on the other side of the footpath, and that the persons av ho Avero injured thus walked up against the wire in passing along- the street. A report of the accident was telephoned to Mr A. Suckling-Baron, manager of the Electrical Syndicate, avlio had the current out off at the spot without delay.
