HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the Hutt County . Council was held on Tuesday. PresentCouncillors CoOk (chairman), J. Wakehan, '& W. Brown, D. Speedy, W. Jillett, F. A. Magehdie, P. Bradey, H. A. Field and G. Brown. ( v A iett'er was received from the Assistant Surveyor-General stating that the consent Of mortgagees inust be obtained before the Belmont road from the railway station can be proceeded with. The matter was referred to Councillor Speedy to deal with. „ The secretary of the Treasury -wrote stating that the No. 1 loan, Whareroa Riding, had passed the audit, and that the amount, had been lodged to the credit of the Council with the Colonial Bank of New Zealand. The clerk !of the Hprowhenua County Council wrote agreeing to the day appointed—viz, 30th April, for the meeting of the conference to discuss the alteration of the county boundary, A letter was also received from the secretary of the Benevolent Institution asking councillors to attend its meetings and satisfy themselves that charitable aid was properly administered. It was decided that the councillors of the Porifua Riding should have authority "to deal with the matter of taking the necessary steps to acquire under the Public Works Act any lands for the purposes of the Horckiwi-Ngahaurangabranch road. ; It was decided to sue defaulters for arrears of rates. ' It was decided to defer taking over portion of the, Makara road until the fences are completed. The Inspector of Roads (Mr J. Golder) presented his monthly report, which was adopted. '. The work done on the main roads consisted of the quarrying, breaking, and getting out of metal. The bridge at Kaitoki had been re-built. Mr R. G. Martin attended and asked the Council to form a road through section 215 Akatarawa in order to enable him to get on his land (section 216). It was decided that Councillor Speedy should deal with the matter. Mr C. Poulson, of Akatarawa, wrote asking that a cemetery should be provided at the Upper Hutt. It was decided to in-
form him that the Council is not in a position to provide a cemetery, and that if one is required the denomination requiring it must provide one for itself, as has been done in other cases.
Accounts amounting to .£407 7s od were passed for payment.
