BENEVOLENT TRUSTEES

The Trustees of the Benevolent Institution .held their weekly meeting on Tuesday afternoon. Present —Messrs G. H. Bay lis (in the chair), S. Lancaster, T. W. MeKenzie, F. Bradey, R. Mothes and J. Collins. A woman who is in receipt of relief, was questioned as to her sobriety and general: behaviour, but denied all the 'charges" that had been made against her. After consideration the matter was left in the hands 1 of the relieving officer. A woman ''', whose' husband is. laid up with typhoid-fever was granted rations for herself and two children for a month, and 5s a week rent. A blacksmith out of work attended" with his wife and asked for assistance. Rations were granted, and the relieving officer was instructed to see the man's brothers, the applicant meanwhile to goup country looking for work. The wife of a man who has been committed for trial wai? granted 4s a week and rations for herself and two young children. Several other cases were also dealt with.
