The terms are very favourable to Mr Ohristie. In this connection it may stated that the advanced legislation of the present NewZealand Government is attracting a great deal of attention in the Old Cormtry. Mr Pease, the general secretary of the Fabian Society, in a letter covering Mr Keiv Hardie's offer to Mr Christie, says, inter alia : " I was much interested in reading in the Westminster Gazette last night (9th of January) an account of the doings of your Labour Minister, Mr Reeves, which seems to indicate that -New Zealand is leading the world in the, matter of genuine Socialist legislation." Five acres of land at Charing Cross* nowowned by the Marquis of Salisbury, were bought 250 years ago by his ancestors for grazing purpose?, :.t'the rate of 10s an acre for 500 years. An extraordinary act on the part of thr«e little boys, of ages ranging from nine to eleven, was deposed to at the WorthingPolice Court the other day. More than twenty-one million pound's? sterling represents the sum annually wasted on an average during the past five years in promoting companies that gave no return to the shareholders.
