WELLINGTON BOWING CLUB.
At the beginning of next month the Club will discard its old colour, pink, in favour of the new colour decided on at last annual meeting, viz., maroon and white hoops. A shipment of jerseys and caps of the new colour arrived from Home by the Kaikoura on Saturday last, and the selection is generally admired. The maroon and white hoops look smart and neat on the water, and will soon become as well known in aquatic circles as the old colour. The following crews were picked last Tuesday night for the Senior Fours, Welington Rawing Club : Bow. No. 2. No. 3. Stroke. J. The first handicap yacht race in connection with the Pore Nicholson Yacht Club was sailed qi, Saturday afternoon. A very
light breeze was blowing from the South, and died away before the events were finished, this making matters very difficult for the competitors. The starters in the first-class race were Kona (scr) and Maritana (7min). The Bona got away first, but was overhauled by her opponent before they had gone a couple of miles. Owing to tho absence of wind, however, neither of the boats were able to finish. For* the second-class handicap t tho boats to start were Mapu (scr), Mahina (7min), and Jennie Reid (35min). A committee meeting of tho Arawa Sailing Club was held in tho Empire Hotel last week. There were present Messrs T. Y. Wardrop (in the chair), A. H. Turnbull, J. Chalmers, M. Silk, W. Moore and C. M. Banks (secretary). Tho meeting was held to arrange the programme of races, and allot the prizes for the season. The following have promised prizes - Mr T. Y. Wardrop (commodore), Mrs T. Y. Wardrop, Messrs H. D. Bell, M.H.R., James Coates, E. C). Batkin and H. Gilmer. No fewer than 21 races were arranged, which is probably the largest number fixed by any sailing club in the colony. The first race will bo sailed on January Otli next, when the 18fb and 14ft boats will sail separate races.
